For those that played on the PC version of Wyvern, you are familiar with the targeting controls of right clicking to fire your readied item, in most cases a bow and arrow. When switching to mobile, most apps use “press and hold” to mimic right clicking with a mouse. This works fine on non-gaming apps, where you press and hold to bring up options such as cut, paste, select all, etc. In the fast pace game Wyvern is, there is no time to press and hold without making a quick trip to the chapel.
Rhialto announced, after reviewing an idea from a previous player, that he decided on using a “click and drag” method. You would click on the “readied icon” button, and then drag your finger to the target. A reticle will expand from the target location, until it finds the closest target, and fire your readied action. This helps ensure you can still hit your enemies even while missing by a small amount when rushed. This will most likely be calculated client side to compensate for the lag and keep the game feeling fast and smooth.
There’s no doubt switching to mobile will be difficult, but it is good to see Rhialto take player feedback into account when crafting the new Wyvern experience, so we can keep the heart and feel of the old game intact.
